Amidst the distinguished setting of the “Our Ocean Conference 2024” in Athens, the Palau International Ship Registry (PISR) hosted a memorable Cocktail Reception on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Golf Prive in Glyfada. Addressing the esteemed guests, H.E. Excellency Mr. Surangel S. Whipps, Jr, President of the Republic of Palau, made a rallying call: “Together, we can make a meaningful difference and ensure a brighter future for our oceans and planet.” His words resonated with the representatives from the Greek and other Governments, diplomatic representatives, environmental and maritime NGOs, Greek and international shipping community members, and media gathered at the PISR Cocktail Reception in Athens.
During his welcome speech, H.E. the President of the Republic of Palau stressed the significance of the oceans for Palau, which co-hosted the 7th “Our Ocean Conference 2022”, stating, “Palau places great importance on sustainable coastal and marine tourism, as well as sustainable shipping practices. We understand the vital role that responsible tourism and shipping play in preserving our marine ecosystems for future generations” he also expressed his gratitude to the Greek shipowners for their steadfast support of PISR: “The relationship between our registry and the Greek shipping industry is undeniably significant, given Greece’s esteemed position as the world’s largest ship-owning nation. Our presence in Greece reflects our commitment to providing efficient and responsive support to our clients in Greece and beyond”.
These sentiments were echoed by Mr. Panos Kirnidis, Hon. Consul General of the Republic of Palau to Greece and CEO of Palau International Ship Registry (PISR), who highlighted the strong link between Palau and the Ocean: “Our flag, with its brilliant blue and the golden full moon, symbolizes our profound connection to the ocean that sustains us. This connection drives our national and international efforts in preserving the marine environment, underscored recently by our ratification of the U.N. High Seas Treaty and our pioneering environmental immigration laws captured in the Palau Pledge” he continued: “As CEO of the Palau International Ship Registry, I am proud to lead an organization at the cutting edge of maritime registration, safety and environmental protection. Our initiatives, including introducing the Green Fee and the Blue Certificate, underscore our commitment to promoting sustainable practices among our shipowners”.
